Bio

Flutist John Romeri enjoys a vibrant and fulfilling musical career, performing across New York City with respected ensembles such as the Orchestra of St. Lukes, American Ballet Orchestra, New Jersey Symphony, Orchestra LUMOS, American Symphony Orchestra, the Glimmerglass Opera Festival Orchestra, and On Site Opera, as well as other regional orchestras.

On Broadway, Mr. Romeri has had the privilege of contributing to numerous productions, including the recent revival of Carousel with Renée Fleming. His Broadway credits span beloved works such as Sweeney Todd, Wicked, Miss Saigon, Sunset Boulevard, She Loves Me, An American in Paris, On the Town, Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, Les Misérables, Beauty and the Beast, Ragtime, Mary Poppins, The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess, and Lincoln Center’s celebrated revivals of My Fair Lady and The King and I.

John’s work has also extended to television, with appearances on Mildred Pierce (HBO), Late Night with Jimmy Fallon(NBC), and NBC’s live productions of The Sound of Music and Peter Pan. He has also performed with renowned artists such as The Roots, Dave Chappelle, Erykah Badu, Busta Rhymes, Harry Connick Jr., The Grateful Dead, Audra McDonald, Kelli O'Hara, Jennifer Hudson, Gloria Estefan, Sarah McLachlan, The Irish Tenors, and Il Divo to name a few. John can also be heard on Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga’s Grammy-winning album, Love For Sale. John also had the unique experience to perform at the 2022 Met Gala with Lizzo and can be seen in the Met Gala episode from the new Hulu series In Vogue.

A passionate chamber musician, Mr. Romeri performs with ensembles such as the American Modern Ensemble, the Orchestra of St. Lukes Chamber Series, Alarm Will Sound, and the Knickerbocker Chamber Orchestra. He is proud to co-found and direct Broadway Chamber Players, a chamber series in New York City’s Times Square that celebrates the remarkable talents of Broadway artists.

John’s education includes two bachelor’s degrees—in flute performance and music composition—from the University of Missouri–Kansas City, where he studied under flutist Dr. Mary Posses and composers Dr. Chen Yi, Dr. Zhou Long, and James Mobberley. He earned his master’s degree in flute performance from Mannes College - The New School for Music, where he studied with Judy Mendenhall, principal flutist of the American Ballet Theater. Other influential teachers include Jacob Berg and Jan Gippo of the St. Louis Symphony, Walfrid Kujala of the Chicago Symphony, Sir William Bennett, and Keith Underwood.

Dedicated to nurturing the next generation of musicians, John has been privileged to teach on the faculties of New York University, Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, PS212 – The Professional Performing Arts School, Bard Advanced High School – Early College, The Ethical Culture School, and The Calhoun School.
